The ACTRA ASM organising committee is pleased to invite presenters to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations in-line with the ASM’s theme. However, submitted abstracts can address any topic relevant to the interests of ACTRA peers and need not address the overall theme of the ASM. All submissions relating to toxicology and risk assessment will be considered.
Conference Theme: Climatoxicology: Assessing risk in a time of rapid change.

- Presenters must be available to present on the 29th and/or 30th August 2024.
- Presenters will be advised of acceptance on or after 7th June 2024.
- Session times are 15-minutes including 5 minutes for audience questions.
- Final programming, start time and duration will be confirmed by 16th June 2024
- Presenters must register to attend the conference by 31 July 2024; registration is free for the day or presentation.

ASM Theme and Subthemes/topics
Abstracts may consider the following subthemes/topics. However, submitted abstracts can address any topic relevant to the interests of ACTRA peers and need not address the overall theme of the ASM. All submissions relating to toxicology and risk assessment will be considered.

Subthemes/Topics
Food
Effects of climate change on food toxicology, risk assessment and risk mitigation. This includes changes in crop protection, pesticide use and practices, food and feed storage, and adverse effects on livestock food and feed.
Water
Effects of climate change on the toxicology, risk assessment and risk mitigation of drinking water and environmental waters. This includes bacterial risks, antimicrobial resistance, toxins derived from microorganisms, nutrification and the fate and transport of toxins/toxicants.
Air
Effects of climate change on the toxicology, risk assessment and risk mitigation of air. This includes particulate and non-particulate air pollution and other air quality concerns, vapour intrusion and the fate and transport of toxins/toxicants.
Soil
Effects of climate change on the toxicology, risk assessment and risk mitigation of soil. This includes concerns regarding antimicrobial resistance, stygofauna, the fate and transport of toxins/toxicants and salinity.
Heat and Heat Health
Effects of climate change on the risk assessment and risk mitigation of heat and heat health. This includes concerns regarding occupational dehydration and heat stress as well as the effects of heat on the effective use of personal protective equipment
Information required to complete your submission (checklist)
To complete your submission you will require the following information:
- Abstract title: (Please keep concise).*
- Abstract: Maximum of 300 words. Text only or with images/graphs/diagrams.*
- Keywords: Option to add up to 3 keywords.
- Contact Details: Main presenter * Co-presenter(s).
- Introduction: A short (20-50 words) biography which will be used by the chairperson to introduce you to the audience.*
- Biographies: A longer biography of 150-250 words for each presenter. This will be used in the conference program.*
- Photograph: A head/shoulder image for each presenter. This will be used in the conference program.
- Presentation type: is your presentation is one of the following – PowerPoint, Talk Only, Poster Presentation*

Formatting
- Abstracts will be provided to the review committee in black text without document formatting.
- Acronyms should be spelt out in the first instance.
Submissions including images/graph’s/diagrams
Should your submission include images/graphs/diagrams please download template 1 (below) to complete before you commence the submission process. The abstract including images and text must not exceed one side of A4.
Co presenters and non presenting authors
Contact details, introductions, biographies and photos are also required for co presenters and these details should be submitted at this website. If you do not have these details at the time you submit your abstract these details can at a later date, preferably, prior to 26th May 2024. Please use template 2 below to submit these details. Name and affiliation is only required for non presenting authors the template below is to be used to submit these details.
Student Travel Grants
Don’t forget to apply for the ACTRA Student Travel Grant. Applications close 26th May 2024.
ACTRA is offering a limited number of travel grants for students to attend this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). Student travel grants are awarded to eligible students who apply and can demonstrate outstanding research efforts in the fields of toxicology, ecotoxicology, exposure science, new assessment methodologies and risk assessment. The travel grant consists of one free ASM registration (including dinner), economy return airfares, and accommodation for the duration of the ASM (to be organised by ACTRA), total value up to a maximum cost of $1,000 incl GST. The successful candidates must present their research in an oral presentation at the ACTRA ASM, held in Canberra on 29th August or 30th August 2024.
Who is eligible?
Current full-time or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate students conducting original research in the fields of toxicology, ecotoxicology, exposure science, new assessment methodologies and risk assessment are eligible to apply. A current student is taken to mean a student who is enrolled in a relevant full-time or part-time course at the time of application to the student travel grant or is a recent graduate from their degree at the time of application. A recent graduate is taken to mean the relevant degree was successfully conferred within 12 months of application to the student travel grant.
